The Lancashire Ballet and Theatre School offers classes in Ballet, Tap, Modern, National/Folk, Jazz, Street Jazz and Musical Theatre for children from three years old – as well as vocational dance training for young adults.
The school is run by Heather Burns a fully qualified and registered teacher, who was trained at Northern Ballet School in Manchester. On graduation in 1984, Heather taught in Jersey for seven years, where her work varied from entering candidates of all ages for professional examinations to choreographing various shows on the Island.
Heather has been awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing in National Dance and Imperial Ballet, and in 2002 was appointed an Examiner in the ISTD National Dance Faculty.
As well as having held the position of Head of Dance at Preston College for many years, Heather is also a guest teacher at many vocational dance colleges (including Northern Ballet School) and runs her own vocational dance academy, the North West Vocational Dance Centre.
All assistant teachers in the school are fully qualified and registered teachers of the ISTD and/or RAD and have all been trained at Preston’s College under the direction of Heather.
The aim of the school is to develop musicality, a healthy body, freedom of movement and self-expression through the enjoyment of dance. All pupils are given the opportunity to take professional examinations and to take part in school productions.
